The local raptors are getting used to me and letting me get very close.
I got within 6 metres of this one, took a few pics and moved on.
The Kite just stayed there even as i walked away.

Love those eyes!
Do you have a "regular" route you walk? What a thought, that a person could see this fella on a daily basis!
Nice work, Shorty!
Best,
Phil
Thanks, Phil. I have a wetlands about 5 minutes from my place and i go there nearly every day and yes i see a lot of raptors there every time i am there. I can't wait for spring when all the waterbirds come back.

Glorious! I love the eyes. I've been seeing quite a few Kites here in the Illawarra recently, but I'm always driving and not able to stop.
Within 6 meters, wow! You're getting as good as M-L as sneaking up on birds,Shorty. I (highly)doubt I could've got that close to one.
This one looks quite comfortable so I wouldn't blame him for not moving... especially on a chilly day?
Brandon (aka ihewman)
Thanks, Sacrednavel. Do what i do, hit the hazzard lights and stop
Thanks, Nathan. I don't think M-L will loose her title on the little birds
Yes Brandon they seem to be very comfortable around me, i guess since i am always there i am just part of the surroundings to themand yes it was a little chilly.

Lucky, I can't even get a shot of a Black Shouldered Kite where you can recognise it, let alone a portrait.
6m.... Jealous....
Fantastic closeup
Dont take life too seriously, it never ends well
Brilliant. Such expressive faces, especially love those eyebrows The closest I got to any raptors yesterday was about 50m away & 20 metres up - two Tas Wedge-Tails. With pouring rain as well, just too many factors which made it impossible (for me anyway) to get a decent shot Keep the raptors coming, and I'll keep my jealousy in check

Thanks, Lachlan. This one is always here but i do target raptors a lot, i look for them everyday so odds are in my favour.
Thanks, Laza.
Thanks, Ruby. I have yet to get a good shot of the Wedgies yet but i am working on it.
Got some more shots today will post later.

Great shots Shorty.
I had a bit of luck this arvo, in spite of being rained on wherever I went. -_-
I spotted a pair of White-Bellied Sea Eagles and what may have been two younguns hunting at the Berrinba Wetlands. A bit too far out and too high to readily get decent pics, but it was impressive to watch. There were two adults, and a couple of smaller brownish raptors flying in formation with them, which I would say were their young.
Then as I was coming home, I spotted a Black Shouldered Kite hovering over a field on the side of the road. By the time I pulled up and hiked back, it had flown to the other side of the field. I eventually caught up with it (ironically back above where my car was). Got a couple of photos while it deigned to sit on a street light for me, but then it took off again, and I decided I'd had enough fun ploughing through snake country.
Nice pics, look a little underexposed.
They are usually OK if they're up high and you walk slowly. I can tell that you shot from well below the bird.
I bet they would not sit too still for long on a fence post at eye level if you tried to approach on foot.
Thanks, Dna. If i ever see one on a fence post i'll let you know how close i get.
