Approval of the Carmichael Minestrosity is a....words fail me. Fingers crossed that no big bank will bother to finance the thing. If you're pro birds & pro the environment please ensure your voices are heard & your emails land in your federal MPs' offices. And write to the Minister agains the Environment, Greg Hunt & let him know you disapprove of his decision. The new PM might like to hear from you, too.
Woko it would be a complete waste of time writing to Greg Hunt. He seems determined to see the project go ahead, even though it is both economically unviable and environmentally irresponsible. Fortunately there are still plenty of hurdles for Adani to overcome. The re-approval gets Adani a step closer to building one of the biggest coal mines in the world but there is still a long journey ahead to see if it will proceed.
There are a lot of people in Queensland, actually Australia that want it to go ahead. I am not one of them but the company I work for are almost praying for it to go ahead.
At last count, fourteen banks have gone on record to say they will not provide any fiscal assistance to the project which also poses a threat to the health of the Great Barrier Reef as well as the future of the Black-throated finch, the Yakka Skink and the Ornamental Snake not that I think any of those facts alone will sway the decision.
Rather than write to Greg Hunt or Malcolm Turnbull we all need to keep our fingers crossed that the global coal price remains weak keeping the project largely unviable because profitability is what will determine whether it goes ahead or not.
My fingers remain uncrossed. I believe that the closer the election is the more the Greg Hunts of the world will be glancing at their inboxes. Anyway, if writing doesn't stop the mine it will at least be therapeutic for me.
