Blinky and Blanky

Here is a pair of rainbow lorikeets that frequently visit my balcony.  They come for the nectar in the shrubs nearby and stay for the seeds.

One of them only has one eye.

Does anyone know how to tell the sexes apart?

If you observe their colouring, size, and behaviour it is may be possible to determine the sex of a rainbow lorikeet. One general rule is that males may have greater concentration of dark orange on their breasts as opposed to the more pronounced bleeding of yellow into orange of a female. The males may also have more of a square head whereas females have more of a rounded head.

Hope this helps! By the way, nice photo.

I love the way they hop along the balcony :)

I will try to get a better photo of Blinky and her/his lack-of eye.

Here are some more photos of Blinky and Blanky.  I am now pretty sure that, based on the amount of orange on the chest, Blinky (the one with one eye) is the male.

Gorgeous photos of those very cute Rainbow Lorikeets! That's great you can tell Binky and Blanky apart now. :-)
