Blue Eye raising Pheasant Coucle?

Hello Birdie People.. At the moment in my Garden is a very large bird I have identified as a baby Pheasant Coucle. It is being feed by one of our regular Blue faced Honeyeater...This has happened several time's over the years. At the moment there seems to be one young honeyeater amoungst the adult birds .Other years we have hade more young ones..In a Crepe Myrtle we have sits this great lump of a bird I have deemed to be a Pheasant Coucle...

Of course I have found this is not correct on internet sites. I have photo's of this beautifuly plummed ,very loud ,impatient bird...It has been around now for several weeks.. I worry about the poor mum,she is beside herself trying to keep the chick !!!!! fed and quiet...Also what does the chick do ..It has no mum to look after it ...Could someone please come and identifie this bird and maybe relocate it... We are just a few houses from our local park...

Very Distressed.. Carseldine.P.s Dont know how to upload photo's from my phone????

It would not be a Pheasant Coucal as they do not lay their eggs in a host birds nest as most cuckoos do, it is more likely to be an Eastern Koel. If it is a Eastern Koel then it is normal for it to have a smaller bird looking after it so you don't need to worry.

My first thoughts were that it might be a Channel billed Cuckoo but would like to see some photographs if at all possible.

Hi Timothy. This is a natural relationship between the adult blue-faced honeyeater & the young bird it is feeding so there is no need for distress. In fact, this is a reason to be excited, pleased, contented & interested as it's part of the natural order of things. This sort of relationship has been occuring for millions of years & is the way cuckoo species survive. To interfere by relocating the bird would be to upset this natural relationship & that really would be a reason for distress!

I think you've got the wrong person woko! I was not distressing, I was telling them there was no need to worry!
