I will show you the original photo. As always, I was close, (2m). I have a Sony 70-400mm F4.0-5.6 G. It does let me get quite close. You can see the leaves in the front are not in focus.
The shutter speed was 1/100 sec, ISO 1600, all on Auto Exposure.
PS M-L, I've posted on your cygnets page - took some photos, still have to post them. No cygets anymore, they're all just slightly different coloured adults now, but hope it makes you feel better to know they're around :)
Very interesting M-L, the Sony must have very good noise performance, like russianbear, I can't get away with 1600. I try to keep below 500. Does your camera book tell you the 35mm equivalent of your 400mm? eg. my 500mm sigma is 750mm equivalent on 35mmcamera. It has something to do with the cameras sensor size. Great shots.
Thanks so much Roger, I think it's the combination between the camera and the Sony SLT.-A55V, and the Sony 70-400 G lens.the 35 mm equivalent is 400x1.5=600 (factor of approc. 1.5x400)
(All the details on the photos , I took of the properties, by clicking on the photo's properties. I might do this in future with my photos, if you are intersted?.That would tell you exactly what my camera/ lens does.)
Hope that helps, as I'm not good at explaining technical details. All my photos are taken on .Auto.
If you have more questions, I will have to consult my husband. LOL.
Holy moly, they are close photos! How close do you get to them? What lens do you have?
I can not get closer than about 5m from these types of birds.

and the girl as it was . What I find very interesting, the original looks a LOT sharper on my computer than here on the forum.

That would be the result of the JPG compression, which makes the photos much smaller in size but also reduces their quality.
Nice original pics, too.

Fantastic shots. Love the shot of the female especially. I'm only to see more of these guys in my garden this winter... we'll see...
Cheers,
Scott.

Very good quality for ISO1600. Just a small noise. My pics are noisier and I treated them by Noiseware soft.

Alex
Lovely pics again. And dear little birds. You are so lucky to have so many around you.
