I have an immature bird visiting my verandah. It looks like it may be a brown songlark. Do these make a clicking sound as well as a song? It clicks and bobs up and down repeatedly then tries to sing. It seems very comfortable with us moving around allowing us to move within 2 metres (prob because of its age).
Hi Wendy, in general immature ( juvenile) birds look quite different to the adult bird. Adult Songlarks just like Blackbirds and for that matter the Bassian Thrush have a warning call, and at the same time they drop their wings and make a flicking movement while calling.
The very young don’t usually do it, neither do they sing. That starts a lot later. The juvenile Brown Songlark is a lot smaller and paler than the adult, and has a pinkish/brown beak, a pale throat, breast light buffed and faintly streaked. (the adult male is a lot darker) The male is about 23-35 cm, and the female 18-23cm.
It would also be helpful if you could tell us where you live and where you saw the bird.
Let me know what you think. If the bird is not shy, take a photo with your mobile if you don't have a camera and post it here.
Good luck.

It might just be a young Blackbird, they look very similar to the Songlark, because they are mottled brown. Or did it look more like this one? A Bassian THrush.
