Gosh, so lovely! Do these visit your house? They are so beautiful, I wish that I could see one in the wild. I love their blue nostrilssmiley

I whish they would visit my garden Elsie. These photos were taken on one of the last weekend trips my husband and I did. (we never did go for long, when you have a few animals , you always have to be back for feeding timewink unless a friend helps out.) But we drove up to Tahbilk regularly to a winery to buy some wine. There are some beautiful wetlands at the Tahbilk Winery too. The budgies were somewhere between Seymore and Nagambie, look it up on the map. Hot and dry in summer.

Such sweet little birds, and it's so lovely to see them in the wild. smiley

Lovely pictures once again. Good to see the group of pictures. We saw plenty on our travels but they were in huge groups, flying fast and rarely landing near us. It is wonderful to see them in the wild. Sue

I hadn't noticed, do the ones that you can buy in a petshop have bands ? I think it also has a number on it? I'll try to zoom in on the original.

All pet shop birds bred by registered breeders are supposed to be banded. Enables those in the know to know who bred what bird, and therefore I guess potentially reduce the chances of inbreeding. Not sure if this is the case in all states though.

yes, banding is (well was in the '70s when I was in that group) general practice for any breeder, invaluable for breeding family lines, etc

I'd say they are for research, wild-type budgies are rare in captivity (and captives have very poor survival rates in the wild).
