It would help if you said where it was , as it may narrow doiwn the ID. it doesnt look very well ...was it stunned or something? Sorry I cant shed any light on the ID
My thought is immature Spectacled Monarch but it seems a bit far south at this time of year unless it is due to the unseasonal warm weather. More experienced birders may have another suggestion. Not many birds would be sitting there on the ground in the rain so it could be quite young or unwell as Birdie suggested.
Not sure why my post appeared twice but canot see a way to delete. Anyway, I also meant to congratulate the Year 8 student on a lovely photo of a beautiful little bird. Teacher and student should be proud.
Thank you everyone, I just looked up the Spectacled Monarch as I had not heard of this bird before and found a juvenile image that is spot on. I hope it was just enjoying a wash and not sick-if you don't get the glint in their eye, they can appear unwell or lifeless.

Sorry-I know verylittle about the circumstances of the shot=it was probably taken on the Gold Coast somewhere. I had thought it was a juvenile.

Sue you got there before me! It is a Juvenile Spectacled Monarch.
Oh yes of course it is, i have been wading through guides and bird books ..... and I have seen them too but not as a juvenile. WEll done Sue and Timrp
