Can anyone identify this little honey eater that has built a nest on the blind cord on my front deck.
The nest is an amazing piece of engineering that took the bird about 10 days to build. She has moved in and we are hoping to see her little ones soon.
But I can't find anything that she resembles on the Bird finder.
Where are you located Mbielen? This might help the more experienced birder which I am not!
You migh also get a better response in the Identifications section .... Cheers
Alison

That's a female Olive-backed Sunbird. Good timing too
Cheers, Owen.
Owen is right. Great photo too. The male - arguably better looking ;) - should be busily defending the territory nearby as well, so keep an eye out for him. I've read they can be fairly easily encouraged to nest outside windows of houses by simply hanging rope for them to use... Enjoy watching them, they're beautiful little birds. Please post more photos along the way to show us how they're going :)
Cheers,
Scott.
Nice photo and a very interesting nest. I've not actually seen one of these before.
I take it you're somewhere north of Rockhampton (based on bird distribution)?
Cheers

Thanks everyone. I live at Yeppoon - Capricorn coast near Rockhampton.
She has finished her nest and spending a lot of time sitting in it and enjoying the view.
She is a beautiful little bird and not at all worried about being so close to the house and all the activity.
Haven't seen the male yet - but i think we can hear him.
Thanks everyone for the replies
wow what i nice veiw you have in the backround.
can I come and live with you??? I can cook some French food for you, I can sing, or I could teach you French or German.

Hmmm, sounds like we all want to move in. Well, with a view like that, its understandable. Lovely little bird, and I've never heard of them building nests like this. Look forward to the progressive pics of her babies as it happens.
