Hi,
Have had a keen interest in birds and bird photography for quite some time and have just joined this group.
Was wondering if anyone can identify this bird for me that was recently sighted at Araluen, near Gympie, Qld. A friend who is heavily into bird photography was unable to identify it. At first, from afar, it looked like a little Peaceful Dove.
Haven't been able to find it in books or on the net so far.
I think that's a Pallid Cuckoo, Falcon. Coincidentally, I heard one calling at my place on the s.e. slopes of the Mt Lofty Ranges in SA this morning. I rarely see or hear them here.
With the back being a darker grey and the rufous underneath I was thinking more Fantail Cuckoo
I think the Pallid Cuckoo also has a yellow eye ring, Devster.
Yes you are correct Woko, my bad. I changed the reason but my answer is still the same :)
Thanks for the prompt reply! Much appreciated! Yep, looks like it is the Fan-tailed Cuckoo going by its distinctive tail feathers and yellow eye ring.
