Am trying to work out whether these guys are immatures (male or female) or just adult females. Am finding the guide explanations a bit confusing. Several King Parrots have just arrived - I only feed them irregularly. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Do I detect a touch of guilt in "irregularly", Bridges?
Nice display of what I think is Thryptomene in the background.
Perhaps! However there was an interesting article about feeding birds in the latest Birdlife magazine. Unfortunately I've mislaid it for the moment. Yes, Thryptomene - the birds love it.

I'd say they are both immatures... imm male on right, imm female on left... that lighter green coming through in the shoulder on the male is a giveaway... Lorne
Thanks Lorne. So the yellow on both birds (tiny spot on the right bird) is as described in Simpson and Day - an area lacking melanin.

I would say, both of them are female.

Hi bridges,
the bird on the left I'd say a mature hen as eye looks to be lighter with ring around out side. The bird on right defiantly a young cock with the wing strip and dark eye that young birds have. The yellow feathers is usually a deficienty or the bird has an issue with liver ect.
Thanks bird76
The bird on the left has a definite ring around the outside and is much lighter than the eye on the right sided bird. So the young male is an offspring of the hen maybe?
