Up until recently i had dismissed Terns as the boring birds that hang out with the silver gulls. Ive come to realise there is an amazing variety in species and seasonal plumages, and they really are aerial masters and a joy to watch.

You're getting some good shots with the new rig Snail. The second one is very clear. Have you applied some sharpening to it or is that straight out of the camera?

Excellent photos - i really like the last one very sharp against that background of the surf.
Amazing clarity in the second shot- You're getting a lot out of your new gear

Lovely photos! You're making me wish I lived near the coast :P All the shots are beautiful, but I particularly like the first one. The sun on the Tern, and the rocks shining in the sun are just beautiful.
Thanks for sharing!
Stunning shots! The first photo caught my attention with the Tern gliding over the beautiful shore.

If I remember rightly it's the male & female Crested Tern which conduct the spectacular, swift, synchronized flight as part of their courting display.
Yes thats right, i was lucky enough to witness it just the other day at Harrington NSW. Perfect synchronisation, absolutely incredible to watch.

I think I applied a bit of sharpening on this one and boosted the exposure just a tad. It was the only sharp frame from the burst if i remember correctly.

Thanks, I like that shot too :) We do have a great variety of birdlife on the east coast but i sometimes envy those living inland with all the woodland and arid zone species. Can't have it all i guess!

Ain't life just so full of compromises, Snail. But isn't it exciting to go somewhere different with all the different bird species which don't live where you live?
