What a great photo Neville. The feathers are showing great detail, but what amazes me is the feathers on the bird's chest look so fluffy .( not the scientifically correct expression )
Is this the same bird you posted under ID? This one had pink feet.(in my book they all have boring yellow feet)
Hi M-L, its not the same one, I spotted the other one around 50 yards away from this beauty. It was an extremely hot day, in the 36 deg range, which up here you add around 4 deg for the humidity as opposed to down south where you remove 2-4 deg for the humidity.
I love the way there are tears in the wing and tail feathers, presumably from some underwater adventure with a thrashing fish, maybe took on a burramundi by mistake.
So presumably it is getting rid of some heat through those feet, as the brown sure isn't going to get rid of much!
i have done a fair bit of detail extraction on the chest, because it was a highlight of the bird for me, but again pixel peeping at the original it is indeed very fine feathering. I was very close to the bird, in a hide, less than 15 metres away with a 50% crop
