Dusky Robins

As promised (following gwils15's outrageously cute Dusky Robin fledgling shots), here are some Juvenile Dusky Robin shots for plumage comparison.  You lucky duck seeing that baby gwils15!  You can see that their plumage "lightens" up quite a bit as they mature into their adult gown.  I've seen some older adults (presumably) almost very grey looking too.

First two snapshots of the juvenile taken a couple of days ago (at Hellyer Gorge Reserve, Tasmania) - and what a curious little sweetie he/she was.  The adult DR shot taken in August last year (Central-North, Tas).  Going through my small, but growing, bird library, I've actually realised I just don't have "enough" Dusky shots - so darn it wink, might just have to just go out and rectify that laugh.

beautiful photography once again Annie, Dusky Robins are lovely looking small Birds & your photography has done them justice if they could talk & see these shots they would say "thankyou".

Cheers.

The last photo looks like it could be a postcard, fantastic stuff.

They're a delight these little birds that's for sure.  I've never "met" a Jacky Winter, but the Dusky's always remind me of them in looks for some reason.   Hope to get out & about in the next couple of weeks to get some more active shots of these little ones.  On a techy note, annoying to see that changing my privacy in flickr deleted the links to all my photo's in this post, never had that happen before when I've forgotten to change it other times - not even game to look into my old posts frown.  Ah well, learn the hard way I guess.

Cute pix. I always prefer to have the birds facing the camera at least to some degree, even if only the head is slightly turned. I totally adore the last shot. I am not sure, but it reminds me of a Jacky Winter. Perhaps it is a Dusky Robin female and I am not at all familiar with robins out of my area.

Well done Annie, keep up the great work.

I agree, eye contact definitely makes for a more appealing shot - although I will confess the over the shoulder is quite often a favourite of mine blush, makes for a good ID shot at the least, or maybe just because I get to see the backsides of departing birds so often laugh

I've never come across any written reference to the difference between male & female Dusky's Canonguy, so to my knowledge they're identical.  Happy to be corrected though, would love to know for sure.  The little guy in 1 & 2 was a Juv, hence the mottling in his plumage.

From the same day, here is another of the little Juv.  Still not quite the eye contact (I am trying to learn to get) but a little more engaged/front on.

Thanks for your encouraging feedback yes

You're most welcome Annie, I also forgot to mention that your signature in the lower left corner is most appealing and subtle enough to not overpower the shots.

I always wanted to have a unique copyright info thingy, but never bothered to create one just yet.

BTW just searched google images of Dusky Robin and they so remind me of Jacky Winter. WOW!

They're definitely so alike, glad it's not just me who sees the similarities!  Would be interesting to see/compare the DNA profiles of both to see just how close they are - mind you having said that, I would no doubt need to have those findings explained to me in laymans terms of course, but just sayinglaugh.

What's a Jacky Winters' personality like?  The DR are most often quite bold and inquisitive, a real pleasure to come across & quite often reasonable to photograph as they're not as nervous & flighty as some of the other smaller bird species.

Aw thanks on the signature - too hard to see that small, but the tree has a heart with two birds perched on it in the middle, a little corny, but I liked it.  I didn't design/draw the tree part itself, but purchased it from a graphic artist.  For less than five bucks, (yes it was legit smiley) I didn't see the point in spending a whole lot of time creating my own when I found exactly what I wanted with all the hard work already done.

Cool, maybe I need a graphic artist to help me. I can take the odd photo, but to make a nice signature is beyond my pea sized intellect.

Jacky Winters are a little timid in my limited experience. Though they do generally respond very well when using call playback. They flutter back and forth from their fence perches taking insects on the ground mostly. Again, like I said, I haven't spent a lot of time with them.
