Fairy Wren eating seeds

....the importance of grasses in your garden?  All the birds in mine love them. The wrens build their nests in there, bring up their young, and eat the seeds.

Well, well, Araminta I never knew that superb fairy-wrens eat seeds. I always thought they were insect eaters. I wonder if you would find tiny insects among the seed pods on that grass.

A superb pic.  They are such gorgeous little birds.

They do eat those seeds, I have seen it. Here is a young Currawong eating seeds, now, I had no idea they did eat seeds either. He was very shy, and didn't let me get closer, I couldn't zoom in more, that made the photo even fuzzier. But if you have a look at his beak, there is a tiny seed in it.

Yep you are right ML - certainly not the major part of their diet (inverts are) but there have been recordings of seeds in the digestive tracts of SFW's

I think birds are amazingly adaptable as their main food supplies vary with the seasons.  I don't mind the currawongs, but the few we had around here seem to have moved on.

Terrific photo and interesting observation. The blue came out beautifully. Félicitations (I'm doing a 10 week French course at the kids school. I might practise on you)
