Feeding frenzy at Fogg Dam, NT

Had to share some recent photos from Fogg Dam, east of Darwin. After the flooding rains the Dam overflow has become a feeding congregation of birds, feeding on rainbow fish and yabbies etc that flow out with the water, the receding depth helping the birds as the water slows and will finally stop in the coming weeks. You mob with the "good" cameras would have a ball, my little kit can't do justice to some of the shots :)

Hope you enjoy, i did!

I reckon in the first shot there is 7 different species! i think.........

And the noise! you wouldn't believe the honking, squawking, splashing, and general mayhem going on between the species.

What an amazing area. I always wanted to go to Fogg Dam. Particularly for the Pied Herons and Jabirus.

Cheers, Owen.

Thanks everbody for the kind replies! As i said, some of you guys would do the place justice, but i get great satisfaction from my photos and just being there and observing of course.

I have to laugh at some of the "wanted" photos, pied herons are something i don't even look at they are so common ( they are the scavengers at the local dump! ( in their thousands)) But then i want photos of your birds that would seem funny as well! Each to their own eh?

Wow how awsome! I could imagine how noisy it would have been. Love the third shot with the spoonbills.

"crash, bang, pow" - the sound of my shattered illusions

I rather like the Heron family and have just to get pics of the Great-Billed and the Pied (and the Bitterns) to finish my set of pics.

I didn't expect to visit a dump for either of these

Sorry Peter, don't be disillusioned! i too like the herons, and when i have a second look at a Pied, they are indeed lovely birds! But as i said, common as sparrows so i tend to over look such "common" scavengers!!

Just for you, a shot of some pied herons...............

Cheers!
