I caught this little one from a distance I just happened to see movement and hit autofocus and snapped. I caught a flash of red on the rump of the others as they flew from the weeds. I thought they were just red browed firetails but I noticed it was not in post. It is a juvenile I think. It has olive wings with dark streaks or splotches and a red area is just visible near the tail. White marks at the edge of the beak. I don't know what it is but I want to get some better shots of them. I'll be going back sometime in the future as I saw Emu Wrens last week, Eastern Ospreys and suspected Black Kite today as well some unknowns.
Juvenile Red Browed Finch.Ray
Quick off the mark Ray.
I have plenty of shots of RBF but I have obviously never seen one this young.
I saw quite a number of them at my bird bath this afternoon. They are as big as the adults, just the colour of the beak is dark and no red brow yet.
As always I envie you all the great places you go to and all the beautiful sights and birds you see. You are one cool guy, all that by leaving a tiny footprint, no car , just walking.

G'day Araminta, What a lot of people don't realise is that most birds are adult size when they fledge.Ray
