I live in a gated community and my back garden is very tiny - the fence is only five paces from my lounge. However I would certainly like to grow such - if I knew where to get it and how to grow it
Hi Valerie. Yes, it's awkward if you don't have much room. Does your gated community insist on only certain types of plants being grown or are they reasonably open minded?
If you let me know the region in which you live I might be able to suggest a couple of plant species that would be local to your area.
Have you thought of growing bird-attracting plants in pots? There are Birds in Backyards members who have used this strategy to provide natural bird food in their courtyards & on their balconies & verandahs.
I've approached a number of communities like yours about growing plants that would attract local bird life. There was some interest but not enough to motivate people to dig in, so to speak. However, I've known people who have derived great enjoyment from watching native birds feeding from & building nests & raising young in their native plants. It added a new interest in their lives.
Lovely array of Double Bars and some nice Chestnut Breasted Manikins. You're very blessed to have such beautiful little birds at your place.
Very cute ... the first one is a classic with them perched on that palm. Thanks for sharing your photos.
Love those finches, valerieclarey. Have you thought of planting their natural food plants so that they don't become dependent on you for their tucker?

These two suphur-crested cockatoos appear to "kissing" - not sure if it was the regurgitating behaviour I have seen my rosellas do.
More likely bond reinforcement &/or social behaviour I think, Valerie.
