Flat Rock Ballina

Went to Flat Rock Ballina on Sunday in search of a Wandering Tattler but to no avail. All good though as I ended up with three new species to my collection including Australasian Gannet, Eastern Reef Egret (Dark Morph) and Australian Pied Oystercatcher along with Little Wattlebird and pelican.

Sounds like there was a nice variety of birds there- all of those that were new for you would be new for me too

Well done in making the most of it. Looks like it was a fairly overcast day as well. I like the Reef Egret lining up for his strike. That would be a new one for me too!

Good work, it looks like it was a rather murky day - i like that gannet shot, very beautiful birds. Also good one of the little wattlebird, getting the shot through the foliage. I got my first Reef egret a few weeks ago, you got a nice shot of that one with a good sized fish.

Thanks folks, the day was a bit changeable but not to bad. Getting alot of firsts as I only started photographing birds less than two months ago and now have over fifty recorded. The reef egret was an added bonus as i was just about to leave the rocks and caught it out of the corner of my eye. Didn't know what to expect but followed it around for about 15 minutes and got about a dozen shots. There were five or six of the gannets flying about, beautifil to watch in flight.

Fantastic spot. I went there in Easter this year for the first time and it was full of shorebirds preparing to set off to all parts of the world to breed. Great shot of the Eastern Reef Egret with what looks like a small Whiting.

Thanks Reflex, yes I had seen your four day easter threads and decided to visit flat rock first. I've had a couple of great afternoons there and just had a couple of hours at shaws bay and along the walkway out to north wall this afternoon. Got some great shots which I will post a bit later.
