Hi, Can anyone please help me identify this bird? It is sometimes it has a smaller conpanion which has a red cheek patch, instead of the red beak and wing. I've seen it eating the fruit on the Tuckeroo tree and the Pointcianas. It is very fast in flight and has quite a long tail. It's big about King Parrot size or maybe a little larger?
I'm in Beaudesert SE Queenland and I'm pretty sure it's not Australian, I have intermediate birding skills. It's call sounds quite different to any Australian parrot. I guess it's a some cage bird turned wild? I thought maybe some sort of Asian Parakeet or could it be an African Parrot?? Can anyone help with this please? I've tried calling to it and talking to it, it does not respond so must have been wild some time. I've spent at least a month to finally get this photo of it!
thanks, Megan :-)
No that isn't Australian, im sure its someones escaped pet.

I think it's an Alexandrine Parakeet? (massive bill, pink on the shoulder), native to India & nearby countries.
I think you're right SteveM, a female. It's interesting to note that it's one of the oldest captive parrot species in Eurasia.
It would be great if someone could catch it & keep it out of the wild.
Affirmative.
I wonder what the companion bird is?
Hi SteveM, thanks, yes I see you're right, I hadn't seen a picture of the female. The mystery is solved at last! Cheers Megan
