Hi all
I realise there have been some disagreements over the past few days and some of our long-term members have said they are leaving. I sincerly hope this doesn't happen as everyone on here makes such a valuable contribution to the forum.
I just wanted to bring us back to why the forum is here. BIBY is here because we want and need people to reconnect with nature and to reconnect with birds. The forum is for people, regardless of whether they know a lot, or know little but want to learn, can exchange ideas, opinions, photos and share the knowledge they have. I think the value comes from those who are learning being able to learn from those 'hard core' birders who really know their stuff, and those birders being able to share all their wonderful experience.
With the photo section I think it is great that we not only have some photographers who take stunning photos, but also the amatuers who want to share what they are seeing. Photo quality does not matter and I apologise if my recent posts about getting good quality photos for the website has indicated that. I want people to be learning and sharing together, regardless of their skill or knowledge level.
So I encourage everyone when using the forum to remember their manners, be courteous to each other and remember that there is a real person on another computer screen reading your responses - it is easy to forget at times that tone etc does not come across.
Remember we are all here because we love birds! So I hope that the wonderful community that is the BIBY forum continues. Please know that regardless of how much you know about birds, you are all valued members of the BIBY community.

Well put Holly, and so very true. The important thing on this forum is BIRDS not how much or little you know or how good or poor you'r camera is, or how well or badly you use it, but BIRDS. Ray
Indeed!... I have just happily joined BIBY and absolutely agree with what has be written. People who appreciate birds have something in common. We appreciate their beauty, their originality, their behaviour and their importance ecologically. It doesn't matter how many birds you have seen or have identified, or if you have an artistic eye or not... let us all enjoy what birds give to us personally. They give me a great deal of excitement!

plz don't vacate, i don't have a camera and unable most days to get aroundwithout ohs and ar's the records would show i log in most days to see the pics and stories . again plz don't go
I understand your concern george, one way to ensure this wonderful forum will go on, is for the silent people to contribute. People like you and me, who don't post photos, can ask lots and lots of questions. I hope, this would engage others to come forward, and start discussions to invigorate the forum!

I am an amateur bird watcher/encouragere and amateur photographer who does the best possible to take some at least recognisable photos... so I am glad my photos will be appreciated.. and I came here to learn more from everyone here and to share my ignorance by being able to ask questions.
I am hoping that the members here will stay around a long time. I have sooooo much to learn.

As I have joined not long ago, not exactly sure of details but I seem to sense from some of the posts I have read that some members are threatening to leave and also know that those members are certainly great contributers to this forum. I think it would be a shame if you guys leave. Please stay. I have joined here to try and learn as much as I can, and each day I log in in anticipation of reading other peoples posts and just getting an appreciation for birds more and more. There is always going to be a differing opinion between people in a community but it does not mean we should abandon that community.
This forum spreads its knowledge to new members like me. My passion is photography, but as i started taking photos of birds I wanted to know what they are, how they live etc and this is where you guys come in. Now I appreciate them more thanks to the community here. Both professionals and people like myself.
I am happy to contribute any of my photos to BBY if you find them of use.
Thank you all again.
I was born to live and I live to die.
