Has anybody else noticed that, as soon as you decide to do a backyard survey, there is an immediate avian strike and every bird in the neighbourhood disappears?

No I just thought that happened when I decided to take my camera out Ringneck!

You've got it in one Ringneck. I've changed to a weekly list so that l can record all the birds that visit my garden - that way weather or time or dog fights dont affect the species record.
Birds don't have birdbrains like we all may think. LOL! :)

it does not matter which 20 mins I choose and I have chosen different ones, actually managed to squeeze in 20 mins at different times in the hours set each day and yes, the interesting birds all disappear and I find a few magpies, magpie larks, and sulphur crested cockatoo if I am lucky.
I go inside to add my survey of the day and as I sit in my office I can hear the noises of more interesting birds than what is in my survey. It is as though they see me coming and duck for cover.

i had this problem with an australian hobby that sometimes hangs around the neighborhood. i saw him and went and got the camera and wehen i went back he was gone.
luckily later on i did get some good shots.
