As I am still green to BIBY, please forgive if I haven't replies directly to your kind responses...not sure if I reply from my inbox or from here at BIBY???
Anyway, thanks to all. We live at Verrierdale which is about half way between Coolum Beach & Eumundi in the hinterland. The wildlife is part of daily life here...birds galore, possums, roos & wallabies, not to mention our cold blooded friends such as frogs, lizards & snakes.
The Channel bills have also become less vocal although I still hear them daily. I too got a good glimpse of a few in flight the other day, and yes, they are very impressive indeed! They are quite large & their bill is very distinctive, but it's their rumbustious & boisterous calls that herald their presence. I have never seen (or heard) so many of them in my nearly 30 years on the coast, and can't help but wonder if this has something to do with the exreme weather we have recently had.
Luckily we don't live in the flood zone, however, our road goes under when the creek up the road can't drain off fast enough.
Happy Sunday to all & kind regards.
Rene.
HI Rene
After today I guess your road is not looking to good , this weather is the worst I have ever seen in my time on the coast and that is nowhere near as long as you.
To answer your question as to how to reply to the postings. just click from your in box on the link and it will take you to the post, from there you need to log in at the top of the page or the bottom and then it will open up a blank box at the bottom for you to respond in. Do the same as you would for a new post but hit reply instead of post at the end. .......easy!
This weather is a serious worry to many near the rivers and I have to go to Maleny tomorrow at 5.30 in the morning so I am hoping that the road will be safe and open . I love the wildlife here and Buderim has heaps of it

Hi Birdie,
Thanks for your help...I think I've got it!
We just got back from going for a walk in the rain to look at how flooded our road is...yes it's under about 300m from our gate, luckily we're on a bit of a slope & get good run off from our place.
Have seen more rain today then I've ever seen in my life...it's been torrential all day with overhead storms earlier on. We now have a running creek in our backyard!
It would be wise to check the road conditions before heading out in the morning to Maleny, or postpone your trip if possible.
Good luck & take care.
Rene
Hey Rene
Unfortunately I can't postpone the journey as I have to start work at 6.30. This position is part of practical placement for study that I am doing and there is no getting away from it. Like you I have never experienced this much rain. Our stream is up and over next to our house but it doesn't affect our homeas we are u p above it. Who knows what it will look like in the morning though?
Good luck with the roads
Birdie

G'day Rene, The Channel Billed Cuckoos around here certainly have increased in numbers over the last few years. I live in the Northern Rivers of NSW and one theory put to me is that there has been a large increase in the number of Crows around and one of the main nests used by the CBCs is crows nests, so they have been very successful in their breeding.I can certainly verify the increase in crow numbers, The only question I have now is why have the crow numbers increased?
Ray
G'day Ray, That's an interesting theory as we also have an increase in crows lately, although I don't know why. I haven't heard the channel bills for a few days now so maybe they've moved on again. Hope the floods aren't heading your way, as we are safe at present.
Thanks for your feedback.
Rene
Hi there, I'm not sure, if a similar thing is happening down here in my aerea,(east of Melbourne)? This year we have lots of "fan-tailed cuckoos",I can hear at least 4 all day long. And at the same time we have more "Magpies" ! Could the same be happening down here?? Over the last 10 years,we haven't had any of them!?

Merci beaucoup Araminta..... I am wondering if Rene is still sayng that it hasn't affected her today..... Qld is looking very grim at this time.
IO have never experienced anything like this and we are OK, but still the rain comes :'(

Sad isnt it one side of Aus has bush fires and the other is flooded. Mother nature can be quite nasty when she wants. Although tonight on the news they were saying fires have been lit deliberately. Hope everyone is safe and sound. What a way to start the new year.
Hi all, Cath and Shane, there is some (lots?) of rain coming our way. That's Australia,..the bauty and the terror...,still a beautiful country!!I think, my question about the cuckoos and the magpies will get lost in all of this. Never mind! On the other hand Rene, are you a girl, as Birdie thinks? I'm not sure? Au revoir!
