G'day Duchess, and welcome to the forums.
The Koels are certainly noisy birds. You can hear the female calling in the morning. It has an ascending call. The male will call all day. It's call sounds similar to someone saying Ko-Ell!
The fascinating thing about these birds is the way that they lay their eggs in the nest of another bird for them to bring up. I know I wont win any friends with that last comment, but I find the way the Cuckoo's lay their eggs, and then leave it up to other species to raise and very fascinating.
You can read more about them from the Birds in BackyardsBird Finder page.
Yea, I too can relate to the noise made by these birds.
IT DRIVES US MAD !
But I understand that it's only for a short time & I'm grateful when they fly away. Sounds kinda harsh - but lack of slepp makes me that way.
On the other hand, it would be dreadful if they didn't come each year. I would begin to wonder where they had gone & why.
The world isn't the same when something disappears.
I have watched wattlebirds try to keep up with the demands of hungry baby Koels & often felt sorry that what food was found, was gulped down so quickly & then more was wanted. Same goes for the peewees trying to keep up with the demands.
Hi Duchess,
They certainly are, aren't they! We have had one show up at our place this weekend but there is a couple more months of noise to go yet I would think.
The solution is either to get used to the noise or get some ear plugs!

Wow, cant believe people actually come here to complain about bird noises!!
We are in THEIR habitat people. If anything i wish there were more noisy birds around.
