selling photos

I wasnt quite sure where to post this thread but here will have to do.

Has anyone tried to sell their photos through a website, or other means?
Also I know some people have websites, which they run, under their posts. I was wondering which web hosts they use/recommend and the general prices.

Hi Daggert,

Red Bubble (just type Red Bubble into Google) is a website on which artists display their work. People can buy the art in several forms - wall art, calendars, or t-shirts. I've bought several t-shirts from there. I unreservedly recommend the website (and I'm not involved with the website in any way other than being a regular viewer and customer).

There are various types of art displayed. The artwork ranges from nature photographs (perhaps the kind of thing that people would buy as calendars) to classic drawings to subculture-type images.

I think the website is really supportive of artists. Artists choose the price for which their art is sold.

Another great thing about the website is that it has as its default setting a "safe for workplace viewing" filter. So, images that aren't appropriate for viewing in the workplace are not displayed; you can choose to view these images, but they don't display automatically.

If you're interested in selling artwork perhaps you could have a look at the site. Type in any keyword and, often, thousands of images will appear. You can choose the type of art (wall art, calendars etc) you want to view. This will give you an idea of the typical prices.

Hope this info helps.

Andy.
