thanks windhover

I have toyed with the idea of stacking teleconverters but dident think i would be able to hand hold such a long lens after reading on one windhovers posts and seeing the results he got i thought i would try.
well today the sun came out and i was bored so i got 2 x2 converters and took some shots of wattle birds in a bottle brush i my neighbours yard.
even with my scratchy old sigma 300f4 the photos i got over 50% were keepers,i was able to fill the frame no cropping the images at a range of 30-40m i will post some latter.
I would not have bothered to try if not for windhovers post so thanks seeing your photo gave me a nudge.

That's great Sparrow.... waiting to see !!!! I followed his advice too and got closer to my catbirds .... had a few equipment failures though so I need a lot more practice.
BTW I realised I can't use a flash extender anyway as it is just the on board flash that I am using and the design wouldn't support it .

Hi birdie, still use your flash you'd be surprised the range they still light the scene!
And you don't think i would put my X-tender on a nikon flash!
oh no im much to cheap, for that i use a YONGNUO $40-$60 on ebay!

LMAO..... a Yong ..what??? Never heard of them! I can make enough mistakes without more expensive gear though.... last night I missed the shot I had been waiting for at my daughter's prizegiving as I still had it set on timer delay for what I had been doing with the catbirds. I was so p@#$d off I can tell you. Not to mention embarrassed as it went beep beep beep at a quiet moment :')

Tried the 2 x2 in the field today limited success, the worst part is when a real shot came along i was in such a hurry undoing everything i think i broke one,a loaner from a pro friend! it's a "KENKO" knowing him he probably found it on sale somewhere, you'd be amazed how much no name stuff is used by guys earning 100k+

Hey Sparrow, you know the best lens I used to have ? I was using Minolta , and had an old SRT-101B. the lens I had was an MC Rokkor 58m 1.4. It was very special and one in a million optics. Have never had a lens like it since LOL
Those were the good old days before zoom lenses :')

Amazing,2 weeks ago another pro friend John Roeszler gave me a Minolta xg9 and it has a MC Rocker 58m 1.4 on it

Have you used it? it is one nice piece of glass if it is a good one. The MD series were not as good. that old German guy that taught me about stuff.... he had the equipment to grind his own lenses even, and he found it for me at the time. He said that with any series of lenses there will always be (in those days anyway when they were still ground etc) a special one. According to him, my lens was one of those special ones. I have to admit that the optics were amazing at the time. I used it for many years. The light meter didn't work (another failing of the SRT 101B) and my exposures were always all over the place LOL

I hate photobucket !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's supposed to be 6 different images but you get the idea

Yes I get the idea, good magnification and pretty good shots too aren't they? Why don't you use flickr? I find it so easy, and eventually just paid the price for a pro account so as not to have to worry about how many things I put up. I have checked out photobucket but can't seem to get into it.

Hi guys
you are welcome. :)
Birdie
I used to have that SRT101B as well and the Rokkor! What a combo, razor sharp images.
The only little thing is to get the best possible image quality especially with stacked TCs you want to be as close as you can be! I always try anyway. :)

Hi Windhover .... I am sitting here at the laptop keeping an eye out the window as the branch is covered in mashed banana... I think the local possum or the bats may end up having a good feed after dark today!

I have decided I need to get a new tripod too... mine is pathetic and very old. :(
