Hello All,
I came across this little tail-less bird on Monday in Cairns. I’m guessing some type of grassbird, but not sure. I would appreciate help with its identification. The lack of a tail didn't seem to hamper the bird's movement through the long grass.
Thanks,
RJ
Golden Headed Cistacola, maybe. No expert, especially with northern birds. Tail - maybe grabbed by something or just moulting?
It's a beautiful photo, you need to post some more in Best Photos, we need as many people as possible to make the site work better!
Thanks for posting

Hello Dale,
Thank you for your comments and the bird ID, the Cisticola is a new bird to me.
Cheers,
RJ
You might also want to check out the Zitting Cisticola - you are in the range of that bird too, and I'm not seeing the gold in the head normally present in the breeding season in the Golden-headed Cisticola. I believe both cisticolas have shorter tails in the breeding season, so maybe this one just moulted? I'm also no expert, interested to see if anyone who knows these species well chimes in with help.
As Dale says, nice photo. Would love to see more FNQ birds so do post more :-)
Hello Alex,
I appreciate the Cisticola info. I’ve much to learn about the birds in FNQ.
Cheers,
RJ
