Great Egret

Had a spare half hour today so decided to stop at the Barker Wetlands as I was passing it anyway.

To get to the car park involved driving past the wetlands so as to be able to do a U turn, as there are no breaks in the centre of the highway.

The side street I used for the turn passed over a small feeder creek and imagine my surprise to see a lovely Egret sunning itself.

The brakes went on very quickly and I ended up parking half on and half off the footpathsmiley

Great images rick - love those refections and the flight shots. They are a beautiful bird, very elegant on the ground and in the air.

Interesting to see the uptilted wing tips in flight.

Great flight shots. Great Egrets are such a graceful bird.

Great shots Rick. I was only thinking the other day that I should carry my camera around in the car with me a lot more than I do.

There is a small area of wet-land (not sure what the correct term is) that I drive past just about every day and I often see quite a few birds sailing about or feeding. I should stop by one day and take a closer look around.

Rick what equipment did you use to take those photographs?

These shots are lovely Rick ....  how convenient for you and how obliging of the Egret that it chose to sit on a little tuft in glassy water like that laugh Those shots with the reflections are just magic!!! I love the last two especially .... funny how you find a little spot like that and it is just in an ordinary drain that people zoom past every day  ... that is what makes birding a great hobby ..... makes you stop and smell ......hmmm the drains??? cheeky

You couldn't be more right Birdie.

On one side of the drain is a six lane highway and on the other a bike track and the usual suburbia backyards.

The irony of the serene looking surroundings and the noise of the traffic barreling down the highway didn't escape me at the time smiley

The bird seemed quite happy though.

That has given me a great idea for a challenge theme .....  or just another interesting thread maybe but under a different forum than Best Photos

Ohh, positively beautiful.  Amazing what beauty can be found in the middle of us nasty humans laugh.  Wonderful shots Rick of such an elegant bird - I'm loving the reflection shots also.
