Ground dweller

Can anyone help me to identify this little bird that has been running around our backyeard and totally freaking out our two hens? He is a fantastic runner, puts his head down and is fast. Seems very unfazed by the screams from my chooks.

I had one in my garden for a summer years ago - it scared away all the blackbirds, for some reason other birds don't like them around. It never came back.

Yeah you are right, all the backyard birds really don't like him although i am pleased to say that after three days the hens have stopped screaming and now just hang out with him and chase him around from time to time. He isn't bothered in the slightest.gorgeous little thing.

You're very lucky to have such a wonderful native bird in your backyard, Vanessa. Not every one can lay claim to such an occurrence. It seems that your hens have learned that it poses no threat to them. Co-existence seems to be working very well.
