I think these are Silver Gulls...just too lazy to look then up . Trying to get some practise in for birds in flight bu tthis lot were slow off the mark...ready, set......fly you buggers!!!
I think these were all taken with the 100ml 2.8 macro .... pretty good lens ...very versatile
Look like Silver gulls to me too. Good in flight shots, always find these are the hardest to do but as everyone says practise make perfect. That macro lens is taking some mighty fine shots.
Thanks Cath, I just checked the Exif info and yes, these were taken with the 100L macro...... it is a very nice piece of glass, these were 4.9 metres from camera according to the info. I did find it hard shooting with a prime lens as opposed to a zoom though. Hadn't realised how lazy a zoom lens makes you
I was trying to get macro shots of insects and flowers at the same time so it is sometimes handy to be able to do both with the lens.

Thats for sure, very versatile piece of equipment you are using. I suppose we all can become lazy at times so this is a good thing then.
I'm the other way round I use a prime (300mm) because I can't be bothered zooming in and out or carrying the big lump of glass around
Nice in fight shots !
Nice ones
Really Sparrow? I just find I am too slow on the uptake when they move to find them in the viewfinder and get them in focus etc , even though I largely use AF . As I have said before i tend to be an opportunist kind of photographer so I walk and shoot rather than sit in one spot, and sometimes you can be just too close with a prime. it would depend on where you were shooting etc, if you can sit at a comfortable distance away with a fixed lens and be sure that the birds are staying on the same focal plane I guess it is good. I am aware though that the best photographers use a prime lens as they are the better quality usually, except in a pro range where the modern telephoto zooms are pretty exceptional!
Nice to see you again Sparrow too
