Happy Family

I was out at Gatton today, and on my way home, thought I'd drop into the park in Chuwar where I spotted the happy family of Apostlebirds a few months ago. Was happy to see that they were still there, and happy as ever. laugh

Their nickname is Happy Family, and they were hanging out in a group of 6-7, with a few birds I heard elsewhere.

My goodness windshear, this set is just gorgeous! Such a stunning looking family. I loved your previous happy family shots so extra glad they were there for you again! Particularly fond of the family group one, so sweet.

Great work windshear ..... they look very engaging and interesting birds. I have not seen these birds, so I'm glad you posted some more pics of them, and the set of pics gives me a good idea of their behaviour too.

All great photos. I have heard they are supposed to normally hang out in groups of 12 - hence the name "Apostle Bird". I don't know if that is the "Gospel" truth.smiley

Des - I can't confirm that rumour. laugh There were a group of about 6 or 7 hanging around together in a little feeding flock, and I could hear a few off in another direction, but I don't think it would have been a dozen or so.

They acted very family like, grooming each other, and "hanging out" together in trees. The "group shot" photo was when a couple of Noisy Miners decided to come along and have a bit of a go at them, and they all grouped up in a huddle. The miners then chased them into a tree, where they all kinda stacked up together on a branch, and the miner gave up. (couldn't get a clear shot of this, as they were too far away)

I think they're so adorkable. smiley

Way to kill a thread peewee.

I think the comments are aimed at how windshear's photos are not just pictures but they tell a story of the birds in their community group.

People put photos of Cuckoos, Owls & Birds of prey that kill and eat other animals, its nature.

While the birds behaviour may not appeal to you, at least recognise the quality of photos windshear has shared.

Great set of photos Windshear, good to see you back posting.

Agree with your sentiment Devster but the photos were posted a fair while ago.

Don't like Starlings but have some lovely photos of them.

Hi peewee.

You're obviously really cheesed off by the dominance of Apostle Birds in your garden. I'm wondering if there is something amiss with the habitat you're providing because from what you say it seems to be favouring Apostle Birds & little else. I'm interested to learn how your garden is structured, what plant species are growing there & in what numbers. What would be the difference between your garden & the nearest piece of good quality bushland where, I would suggest, small birds would be part of the biodiversity? Would you be able to post some photos of your garden to give an idea of the sort of habitat it provides?
