Hobby

I have watched this battle many times so i thought i would share.
The Neighbour behind us has a very tall pine tree and the resident Hobby likes to sit on the top of it but unfortunately the Currawongs like to sit there too. (These photos were taken from quite some distance)

Guess who won :)

Good photos myky50. I've seen similar events with about 10 currawongs fighting a single collared sparrowhawk. ^_^

thanks Elle :) and birdie i agree but it seems very few are frightened of the Hobby - Pee Wees, Blue Faced Honeyeaters & Crows also take on BOP - the Currawongs and Crows i can understand because of the size difference - but the Pee Wees and Blue Faced Honeyeaters i would have thought could be prey
i guess it comes down to they know the rules and i don't :)

Well done Myky. I have seen this same battle with Hobby and currawongs before too. He sure stood his ground!

Cheers, Owen.

Hi Owen and yes he did - i think he finally got P***ed off with them more then anything - it probably went on for about an hour, he would fly off do a circuit then fly back to the top of tree then it to start all over again

Yes Myky, I have seen the Peewees go after BOP too ...they are fearless!!! I have read that black and white birds are more likely to behave like this ..can't remember where it was though. I really love observing and recording behavioural characteristics like this.... so keep it up as it is interesting for us all to follow and learn.
