Honeyeater?

Hi everyone

I've tried to identify this black and white bird, which is very similar in size, head and beak shape to the blue-faced honeyeater we have visiting our bananas regularly.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

I think it is a blue faced honey eater.

Juvenile maybe.

Cheers Beef.

I thought I answered to this post, where did it go? But anyway, I'm with Beef on this one, Blue-faced Honeyeater.

Thanks Beef and M-L.

I've found a good article on Wikepedia about the Blue-faced Honeyeater, and how they quite often do not change completely into adult plumage until around 18 months old. Very interesting reading.

The more I study the pictures I took, the more I am amazed how similar it is to the adult birds that seem to be residents hereabouts.

Ours are the cyanotis species around here apparently, (Brisbane bayside suburb of Victoria Point) and wikepedia is showing several variations in juvenile colouration.

I'm building up quite a collection of birds I can now identify that live on our property or visit regularly!

We did a count a couple of years ago, well before I started to think about photography, and we came up with at least 25 different birds. Now that I am really looking at them, we are well over that.

I'll have to start writing them down, because my photo albums are getting a bit large for some strange reason :)

Cheers

Chris
