I am wondering if this was a kite. If so is it a black shouldered or letter winged kite. I took these today at Mount Annan Botanical gardens near Campbelltown NSW.

I'd also say Black-shouldered Kite. The marking behind the eye is missing in the Letter-winged Kite, that makes the eyes of the L-w Kite appear more round.

I'll 2nd Black-shouldered Kite. Note the black eye-stripe goes behind the eye, on Letter-winged the black stops at the eye, i.e. black only in front of eye, not behind.
