rich interesting this guy does not sing much at all, the black birds kill it noise wise, that is why I was unsure on the ID, shrike was my first ID, then but the call made me doubt. It's a long way to go before I will be a birder but it will happen. david
Hi David , I have a few of them in my garden, (Grey Shrike-Thrushes), they come in light grey all the way to more dark brown/grey. This is definitely one. The male has a more visible white or light grey eye marking. Don't know why yours doesn't sing? In my garden they are the second bird after the Kookaburras early in the morning to sing out to each other. Much louder than Blackbirds.
looks like one.
It's a Grey Shrike-thrush.
Greg & Nathan thanks some of the lack of characteristic makings & call made me think Grey Whistler without considering region ...my bad..thanks david.
They do sing beautifully though and loudly.
