ID if you will

Background info - Taken at Marsden (SE QLD), in Melaleuca/eucalyptus bushland.

I'm puzzling over this one, unfortunately I only caught a glimpse of it after hearing it calling for quite a while, and the photos I have are from below as it was perched quite high up. It sounded a bit like the call of the Forest Kingfisher, but... not sure.

Cynical me keeps saying it's a butcherbird, but the tail and beak aren't right.

Any ideas?

I'll 2nd Forest Kingfisher, due to large prominent white forehead spots (headlights), & the diagnostic large white spot in the outer wing is just visible in the 2nd photo.

Great! Thanks all three of you. laugh

It was certainly chirping away like a Forest Kingfisher, and you guys confirmed it. smiley

Definitely a kingfisher.

I remember this time last year, doing bird surveys along Oxley Ck and there were a lot around doing their breeding "ki ki ki ki ki" call.
