Hi y'all!
Having trouble IDing a bird sound I hear in the rainforest where I live. It's only at night. It's a single piercing cry, sometimes almost very high pitched whistle. I know exactly what a bush stone curlew sounds like and it's not that, and when I google the description all I get is curlew. I am inland slightly - unlikely to be a shore bird, but I am near a creek so possibly a water bird. Any ideas?

Hello Lauren, could it be a Lesser Sooty Owl?
Hi a. You might want to download to your smart phone the Michael Morcombe bird app which includes calls of Australian birds. It costs around $36 & contains a wealth of other information.
