Hi,
I am looking for help to identify a bird I heard this afternoon but did not see.
It (perhaps a pair or more?) was a three short note 'peep peep peep' answered or followed by a longer four note whistle. I am in NE Victoria. in the sound recording 'video' the order is reversed.
Cheers

Apologies Tony, there is a way to share the recording but I don't know it. I am answering in hopes someone else will notice and respond to you.
Thanks Sue, I have edited the post to attach a link to youtube

Butcherbird, pied butcher bird I think. They often are in family groups, each family groups call is slightly different. They often share the singing amping them selves.
Wimmera mally region, Vic.
Thank you, lightuningbird. A quick look on the web shows the wide variety of calls. https://www.piedbutcherbird.net/4-notes-and-calls.html New to me and I will look out for more in the future. We have identified nearly a hundred birds here at our place, and this is one to look for as well as listen for. It was on a neighbour's place and I couldn't for the life of me see it/them.
cheers
