Saw this one on a beach just south of Mallacoota. I'm pretty sure it's an Eastern Reef Heron but as I've never seen one before just wanted some confirmation. Thanks.

Does look like an Eastern Reef Egret (dark form)- my books call them Egrets, not Herons.

2008 C&B use egret as well, but you are still correct. Dark morph Eastern Reef Egret/Heron it is. It's just that older books use the word Heron instead of Egret and more current terminology is preferred.
