Hi everyone
Any ideas what what these little guys could be? I couldn't get close to them so the photos aren't much good. Are they just sparrows or something more exotic like a mannikin or finch? When I enlarge the original, the one at the top left corner has a scaly pattern on its underparts and a brown bib but none of the others do. I saw them in a park in Rockhampton, Qld next to a wetland at about 4pm in a group of about 12.

Check out the Nutmeg Mannikin.
That's my guess, from seeing aviary birds, as a kid - many, many years ago.

.
Spots look right on that bird in top left. Distribution right.
Others may be juveniles.
.
Ed is a "local" (more or less) - he might be familiar with juvenile plumage.
