Hi all,
Only managed this one shot high up and in the shade, I think it is a Grey Whistler, Pachycephala simplex but wonder if the russet feathers indicate possibly being subspecies rufipennis Any ideas?
P. simplex? rufipennis?

P. simplex? rufipennis?
Sorry, should have mentioned taken in the North Burnett inland from Bundaberg. Qld.
Have you thought about a female or immature Rufous Whistler?
.
Pachycephala rufiventris

maybe (and I'm going with) an imm. Golden, (pectoralis)...is that a very slight yellow wash around the belly/vent?
Ed Townsville NQ
yep, ed,
you are right about the yellowish vent.
golden is a possible..
Thanks for the input guys. From my research Grey Whistlers all have yellow to a greater or lesser degree on the underbelly. Stevehapp, no its definitely not a rufous female or immature as they both have striped undersides even when very young. This bird appears to be at the least a sub adult or full grown. Hopefully I will get a chance at a better shot of it sometime.
oh, i forgot to ask.
What is the location of the bird?
that may help.
,
p.s. i think you are right about the rufous. just throwing possibilities out there.. doh!

cheers,
steve
