I spotted this bird just this morning. I have never seen it before. I think it's a Shining Bronze-Cuckoo. But in my book it shows the colour on the wings as being green, however, this bird had more like an aqua-blue colour. Are these cuckoos known to have a bluey colouring too?
Hi Elle,
Yes, I think that Shining Bronze-cuckoos are often iridescent blue-green. They're beautiful, aren't they?
Andy.
Thanks Andy. Yes, they are gorgeous! :)
Elle, I think it's the case that like the speculum on ducks, the wing colours on bronze cuckoos change depending on the angle of the light. My best guess is that this is indeed a shinging-bronze cuckoo but I'm happy to stand corrected by greater authorities.
Shining Bronze there. Horsfields has a band across the face.
Cheers, Owen.
