Hi, I live in Perth WA and this morning this large bird was in our backyard. I can't seem to find info on what this bird is so I though I'd ask.

Welcome Nocturne!
Looks like it could be a night heron, but the lighting in the photo seems to make him a bit lighter than depicted in my bird id book. The plumes on the head are seen during breeding on these birds.
Seen these a couple of times around Melbourne (including in the botanic gardens).
This is an adult Rufous Night Heron (Nycticorax cadonicus).
N. caledonicus is what I should have said. :)
Wow, thanks for the info! It's strange, we don't live anywhere near water...
