Definitely one of the butcherbirds. The pattern on the wings suggests an immature black-backed, however, according to my Pizzey and Knight it has a limited range, far North Qld in the Cape York Peninsula. There are two other possibilities, either the grey or the pied butcherbird. Sue from Brisbane

Depending on where you live, though the most likely option would probably be a juvenile grey butcherbird.
I did wonder about butcher birds - and I hope he's not going to be a danger to my resident swamp rats!!
