I'm reposting this here, because I'm interested to find out which is which. According to all my books it is only the male Crescent Honeyeater that has a yellow patch on the wing. Are those two male? Or is the second one a female.Help please.
Male?
Female?
if both are male, I haven't seen a female yet. M-L
Certainly the lower one is a female or a juvenile. Females do have a yellow wing band.
Juveniles are like dull adults.
I can't distinguish from this photo whether the lower bird is female or juvenile, but i suspect it's an immature as it is farily 'dull'. Someone else may be able to do a better job than me though!
My bird book is Pizzey and Knight, and I think it's the best!
Thanks Scott, they usually turn up later in the day, (and early morning), I will try to get some clearer photos.M-L

The female crescent honeyeater is generally duller than the male. It still has a yellow patch on the wing but not as bright as the male's patch.
Didn't you post a photo of a female a few days ago, Araminta?
yes Woko, I did, (under best photos), but nobody responded, so I tried here again. I can be very persistant, ask my husband. M-L
