At the western treatment plant today I got very excited when I spotted 4 or 5 bright green birds rise up from the ground as I drove past.... terrible photos but it's very hard to steer/brake/grab camera and take a photo with a two second window of opportunity before they disappeared back to the ground! I think it's probably wishful thinking.... I would LOVE to spot an orange-bellied parrot as they are a critically endangered species....
what's your opinion? could it be????

orange-bellied parrot?
Sorry to disappoint you Hev.
I think that is a Red-rumped Parrot.
Bryan
darn...ah well for a few happy hours I thought I had spotted a rarity:) thanks for I.D'ing my 'wishful thinking bird' Bryan:)
Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best
If I am not mistaken, Healesville Sanctuary has Orange-bellied Parrot quite sometimes ago, not sure whether still there.
Keep looking, you might find one, because the Western Treatment Plant is one of the location they migrate during winter.

yes you are right Bryan, I always take the relos there when they come over from the UK, and they had OBP's in February...nothing like spotting one in the wild though is there, and yes apparently western treatment plants the plcae to spot!
