Hi I am new and today after filing in the monthly survey i realized i have no idea of what this bird is. It is nesting in an old tree branch alongside our lagoon. and it isn't there all year.
White belly grey top and a blue beak.
However, it comes to my mind that the species with a small frontal white spot on the head are robins. Most of the black-or grey-backed robins with this kind of spot have white wing bars, except the pink & rose robins. Therefore I'm wondering if this is a juvenile pink robin given that its back is black rather than grey & there's no evidence of pink colouring on the front.
No doubt someone will come up with an accurate answer!
I'm not surprised at that diagnosis, al. When I first looked at singingyamada's photo I thought of a woodswallow but the small white spot on the forehead pointed me in the direction of a robin. Curious!
thank you so much I have posted better photos. I love at macmasters beach NSW and this nest is on the lagoon. I have finished my relationship with photobucket and am in training for flickr thus my messing around with photos. I am so glad to have found this site and I walk every day with a camera.
I am waiting for the sea eagles to snap and have seen them but they are too fast. IMG_1853 by singingyamada1, on Flickr IMG_1622 by singingyamada1, on Flickr

Can you tell us roughly what area you live, siningyamada? That could give a clue.

I just posted the photo and then looked it up and it is a white breasted wood swallow. I am going to have to start labelling my photos.
