Immature WK?

Not ideal conditions for photography but this bird was perched on a tree by the side of the road ( Samsonvale Qld and beside double white lines as well) at about a minute before the heavens opened up and down it came. Only had enough time for a couple of shots before it took off and the rain came hurtling down.

I suspect it is an immature Whistling Kite?

I might say that it could be a Black Falcon? I'm not very good at id'ing the raptors though :P

I hope so. Good on you Elsie!

That would be great if it turns out to be a Black Falcon. Actually as it took off it startled half a dozen Quail which took to the air but old mate just kept on flying away. I bet the Quail were happy.smiley

I reckon Brown Falcon as well. I think too much banding in the wing & tail for a Black.

This is a dark Brown Falcon for sure. All those clear brown spots are perfect indication for starters. Another excellent indication is that the tail and folded wings are about the same length as the bird is perching. A Black Falcon's tail would be longer when perched. But, in any case, everything I see in this bird is a Brown Falcon.
