Introducing KookaCAM

One of our fantastic members Ken has put a camera in a Kookaburra nest box. We are trialling streaming it here on BIBY. You can check out the amazingly little kookaburra chicks on KookaCAM.

i think it would be a great idea to add a chatbox to the side of it - like the sea-eagle cam

There is a chat box on the ustream page: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/karawarrakookaburra  - not sure if we can embed the chat too. This isn't a BIBY project as such, we are just embedding the footage that Ken is uploading.

Has anyone been watching? They have grown so much!

That's fantastic. I would be interested to know does the camera use natural light in the nest box or is there added lighting?

Yep I have been checking on them fairly often. When I checked today they were lying on their stomachs with their wings spread and I feared the worst. However they eventually sat up again and looked well. I think maybe they were just trying to keep cool in the heat of the day? The camera went offline this afternoon and hasn't come back yet, so I haven't been able to check them again.

The wings spread is them keeping cool and nope it isn't online today yet but hopefully Ken will put it back up when he can.

I believe it is natural lighting too...

Well the gorgeous babies have fledged (with no. 2 leaving the nest box yesterday). Ken has turned off the camera so we will take out page down for the year but hopefully we can have it up and running again next year.

A huge thank you to Ken for allowing us to stream his footage through BIBY and sharing his story with us.
