Juv Collard Sparrowhawk?

This was taken at work in Samford QLD.

At first I couldn't decide between a Juv Collard Sparrowhawk or Juv Brown Goshawk.

The things that suggest to me it's a Juv Collard Sparrowhawk are:

1.Shorter Tail

2. Thinner Legs

3. More Mottled Breast.

Anyway what do you guys suggest.

Looks like a Brown Goshawk. The bird looks really robust and the eyebrow appears more like the cranky brow of a goshawk rather than the sparrowhawk.

Best send your question to Dr Stephen Debus. He's always happy to help interested folks.

Brown Goshawk to me aswell, it doesn't have the long middle finger like Collared Sparrowhawks do.

Thanks guys.

Brown Goshawk it is then.

A new one for me, YAY

Canonguy, I thought the cranky brow was because he was being harrassed by a group of Noisy Miners wink

Thanks Willskrills I forgot about the Sparrowhawks long middle finger.

Was I correct is saying it was a Juvi?

The rounded tail (outer tail feathers noticably shorter than central feathers) also supports Brown Goshawk identification.

Yes, it's a young bird, I think juvenile, but I'm not sure on the differences between juvenile & immature Brown Goshawks. I think the rufous fringing that can be seen on the wing coverts in first 2 pics, is indicative of juvenile.
